What is EDI (Electronic Data Interchange)?
The electronic exchange of information is based on the transfer of various documents and business information between computers of the partner companies. EDI replaces the using of fax or paper documents in the various commercial relationships, by using XML formats, based on widely accepted standards.
EDI is used by companies working in different industries in order to streamline the exchange of intelligence documents with partners and suppliers, but especially the big Key Accounts International (IKA) chains. Most of these companies require suppliers and partners to integrate them in the relationship of EDI systems. Standard documents used in daily activity in relationships with partners can be transferred between systems with minimal human intervention, using automated processes and information flows.
The advantages of using EDI
The exchange of information and documents in electronic format has obvious advantages in what concerns costs, by eliminating paper, the time required and errors caused by the handling of documents. EDI transactions between companies are much faster and more reliable than the classical transfer of paper documents. The speed of these transactions is reflected in the faster rotation of stocks, in the efficient use of storage space and the increased quality of relationships with IKA.
Benefits of ERP system integration with EDI platforms are felt by all trading partners involved in exchange. They are obvious in the growth performance, reporting substantial savings of time, significant costs and accuracy in taking orders and document management or extensive flexibility in the exchange of information in real time.
The SeniorERP system is dedicated to importers and distributors who deliver in the big chains of hypermarkets in Romania, based on the concept of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange). Representing one of the current trends in standardization and efficiency of trade and requested a condition of large hypermarkets chains in relation to suppliers, communicating via EDI offers competitive advantages and significant cost and resources.
How does EDI function?
An IKA issue orders to its various suppliers. A supplier receives orders from each IKA that is listed. Hence a lot of systems that should understand the same language. To remove this complexity, in Romania there are several providers of EDI services, which translates the different formats in order IKA one, according to international standard. Thus, the supplier, depending on which provider to subscriber, all orders meet the same standard format. SeniorERP, through an open architecture type of add-in, can translate various internal documents (commands, notifications, invoices, etc.) in one of the standard formats, in both directions.
